The trip between Ballarat and the airport
Most trips follow the Western Freeway towards Melbourne, then the Western Ring Road to the Tullamarine Freeway and the airport. Localities to the north and west of Ballarat, such as Creswick, Clunes, Smythesdale and Skipton, join this route at Ballarat or along the way. Travel tips
- For a domestic flight, plan to arrive at the airport about 90 minutes to 2 hours before departure. For an international flight, plan for about 3 hours.
- Add time for traffic around the airport, especially on weekday mornings.

Yes. Each locality has one fixed fare per vehicle type, shown in the table above. The fixed fare includes tolls when we take the route Google Maps recommends.
Does the fixed fare go up if there is traffic?
No. The fixed fare has no waiting or traffic charge. A taxi meter keeps running at about $0.80 per minute when the car is stopped or moving slowly, so a delay can only make a metered trip dearer.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We track your flight and contact you, so we are on time when you land. There are no waiting charges at the airport.
Can you pick up more than one person or make a stop on the way?
Yes. An extra pickup or a detour you ask for is charged by the extra distance. Tell us when you book and we will give you the price first.
How can I pay?

How is the fixed fare compared with the meter?
The worked example above shows a Sedan trip from Buninyong: about $290.82 on the meter against a $245 fixed fare, before any time spent in slow traffic.
Is the metered fare in your example exact?
It is an estimate. It uses the Overnight maximum rates from the Safe Transport Victoria July 2026 fact sheet, and a real meter also charges time when the car is slow or stopped.

Can I book for a large group?
Yes. A Maxi Cab takes up to 11 passengers with 6 bags. If you have more luggage, fewer passengers fit, so tell us your numbers when you book and we will suggest the right vehicle.
What does the Overnight metered rate mean?
Taxi meters in Victoria use different maximum rates by time of day. The Overnight rate applies between 5pm and 9am, excluding the Friday and Saturday night peak, and it is the rate used in our worked example.
When should I leave for my flight?
Allow for the drive, traffic around the airport and check-in. As a guide, plan to be at the airport about 90 minutes to 2 hours before a domestic flight and about 3 hours before an international flight. Early morning and late night trips are quiet on the road, but book ahead so your pickup is confirmed.
